Review:
This well written article is about the many exotic new spices being discovered in Greater Mekong, an areas that consist of parts of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Southwestern China. Since 2008, 163 new spices have been discovered. Some of these new species are unique and interesting. One new type of animal that is shown in this article is a fanged frog that eats birds. There have also been new plants that have been discovered that have never been seen before in the world. Unfortunately because of climate change these new discovered animals might not survive in the future. The Mekong River Delta will be affected greatly by saltwater intrusion on the coastlines. This creates a problem of major animal and plant extinction. To solve this problem the head of the WWF Global Climate Initiative will talk with the UN to see if any improvements can be made.
This articles talks about a problem that will affect the whole world. Climate change is very a prevalent topic in our world for a reason. Because this area has so many new spices it would be a shame if so many spices would be left undiscovered because they could go extinct form a changing environment. I also think that new plants can be discovered they might hold new medicines that would be able to cure diseases but if they never have a chance to be found then lives could be lost. I think it is import for every one to try to slow the effects of global warming so we can protect all of the species and animals and plants, discovered or undiscovered so they can have a chance to thrive.
I think this article was relatively well written. I like that this article was easy to fallow and had lots of detail. The writer used good language that was easy for me to fallow and I was able to understand almost the entire article. One of the problems with this article is that some abbreviations for programs where not defined which would have made the article better.

  1. I think this review was very well written. One thing that was good about this piece was how it’s easy to understand even though it refers to many geological locations and different organizations. Another was that though it was easy to understand, it was still very interesting to read. And thirdly, I liked how Jackie gave a lot of different reasons to personally get involved to help this cause, by stating things like how undiscovered species would die out before being found, and plants that could hold new medicines could go extinct. One thing that I would’ve liked to know more about from this article was about the different types of plants and animals that have recently been discovered, such as the ‘fanged frog that eats birds’. Another point was how I got confused at the mentioning of the ‘WWF Global Climate Initiative’, because it would’ve been helpful to know more about that. Overall I think this review was wonderfully written, I especially liked how it was about something that was not unfamiliar, which was global warming.

  2. This review gave me a good understanding of the new species being discovered and how to keep them around for a longer time. One thing I liked about the way she wrote her review was she was very direct and to the point about the topic she was trying to prove. Another thing that I liked was that she took a confusing topic and made it simple so that everyone could understand. Last of all I liked how she really made you want to help by telling you facts about how harmful what humans do can be. One thing that I think she could have improved on was her spelling and grammar. Also in certain areas I thought she could have expanded on her thought and told us more about the subject at hand. In general I believe that this review was excellently written, she gave me a full understanding of the new species being discovered and how to make sure these new species don’t go extinct.

  3. I found this review to be very relevant. I enjoyed the well-written descriptions of the many new animals and plants, such as the "fanged frog that eats birds." I also enjoyed how Jackie made the article both interesting and easy to read. The article accurately identified global warming as a significant problem. More details about the different species of animals and why they occur in the Greater Mekong could have been better explained. Also, more information relating precisely to how global warming will affect these animals and plants would be helpful. All in all, I thought that this review was timely, and it helped me understand how the extinction of one species can result in the loss of other species in its food chain.

  4. I really enjoyed how you talked about all the new species being found in Greater Mekong. I found it very interesting that one of the new frog species, the fanged frog, eats birds. I also thought how you said that climate change might kill off these new discovered animals was compelling, and how you explained it well in detail. You could have made your review better by not having as much misspelled words. For example you use the word spices instead of species in a sentence, the word import instead of important, and the word fallow instead of follow. I think you could have talked more about what people are doing to try to keep these species in the Greater Mekong safe during climate change. I was really impressed by the way you argued how having undiscovered plants stay alive is crucial to our medical finds.

  5. I thought this review was very compelling. I liked how you told us how much climate change will effect things. Such as, species dying out because they would not get used to the climate change. I also liked how you gave good examples for everything you wrote about. For instance, the fanged frog being a new found species. Thirdly, I liked how this article was easy to read. I had no problems trying to understand what point she was trying to get across. You could have made your review better by elucidating more on the fanged frog, that seemed very interesting. I also think you could have made your review better by not misspelling words like "species" and "important". Overall, this article was really impressive. You really got me to understand what species were being discovered, how species are going extinct, and how people are going to try to help (WWF).

  6. This review was good for several reasons. The first reason was that Jackie was able to meld together several topics into one, easy to read, topic. For example, The UN, spices, animals, and global warming were all turned into one. Also, Jackie was very clear and direct in her article, not straying off topic. Finally, Jackie wrote a review that is able to hook a reader and keep them reading. I enjoyed reading this review. However, as Amelia said, there were some spelling mistakes which can be easily fixed. Also, Jackie could have said when the saltwater intrusion would start advancing into the Mekong Delta, or if it has already started. I learned about the ecological repercussions of global warming and how we would be at a great loss if the coastline advanced into the Mekong Delta.

This was a well writen article I beileve. I am surprised to find that 163 new species of animals have been discovered. That is about 1 every 3 days. And it seems as though there are some oddities amongst the newly uncovered animals, for example the fanged frog. I was facinated by the fact that is eats birds, let alone fact that it can even catch them. frogs are usually quiet inactive so that they can reserve the energy from their last meal. But a frog going after a bird is very differnet from their usual behavours because it seems asthough it would take alot of energy. Another good point that was made in the article was that because of the heightening in the global tempuratures. The Mekong delta will be affected by this in posibly a negative way. Which could then lead to the extiction of undiscovered animals, if this happens then dozens of animals will be lost to history and we will never uncover the secrets that some of then may hold. I did get confused whether or not the article is about the newly discovered animals, or climate change. And I would like the article to elaborate on what the WWF is. I thought that this was a good article and was amazed by some of the newly discovered species.

  8. I beleivet this was a interesting review. One cool thing I learned was that so many new soecies of plants and animals are just being discovered now. This makes me think of all the possibilities, including a frog with fangs. Another thing that caught my attention was that the climate change is beginning to harm these new discoveries, and why the WWF is trying to help. It also shed some new light on the global warming issue. I think that this article has nicely portrayed yet another aspect that proves a very rellevant topic today. One thing I thought would have been nice was if Jackie had given an example for one of the new species of plants. Other than that, the only problem I found were just a few typos such as writing "form" instead of "from" and misspelling "important." However, over all, this review was extremely eye opening and was very interesting. I cannot wait to read more reviews on this topic!

  9. This was a smart review written by Jackie. It was very captivating to me because I love animals. I liked this article because I learned in what parts of the world there are new species, and how many there are. Also, this article taught me the reasons why these species may not live, and what organizations are aware of this problem. Finally, I liked how Jackie got right to the point in her article about how these species are in danger. There are a couple ways the article could be improved. There were too many misspelled words. For example, she wrote spices instead of species, and she wrote fallow instead of follow. Secondly, I would like to know how wildlife organizations are helping theses species in Greater Mekong. Overall, this was an interesting article with a compelling topic about animals.

  10. I like that the article is very informative about the plants and spices of Southern China and the way she described them in detail. She caught the reader’s attention by mentioning the spices and plants that nobody every herd before, and eventually continued to catch the reader’s attention by explaining how close they are to extinction. But what she could have done better was provide the article with more detail about the plants. She also could have mentioned what we could do to prevent the plants from extinction. But the thing that surprised me the most was that they never mentioned these rare plants and spices before they were on the brink of extinction.

  11. 1. The fact that Jackie specified the area of the new discoveries made the article much more interesting. By mentioning this she gave me information on many things such as the geography the newly discovered species live in, thus giving me information on how they live.
    2. It was very good that Jackie talked about the climate part of the article. By talking about this she made it clear about a danger that may affect these animals, and that we must try our hardest to get rid of this danger.
    3. It is also good that she mentions different types of plants and animals that were found, such as the fanged frog. I found it astounding that there is a frog that preys on birds.

    1. Jackie could have elaborated on the different uses of the newfound plants, an idea she only mentioned once.
    2. She also could have spoke more about what the WWF and the Un are doing about this problem. I would have been very interested to hear what they plan on changing to make this world a better place for these animals.

    1. This review impressed me greatly. Jackie picked a very interesting topic and explained and summarized it amazingly well. She presented her facts in a good, easy to understand way. Not only was this article very interesting it was also very informing. I learned that still new species of plants and animals are being found at that just as quickly as they are being found they are becoming extinct.

  12. Jackie you did a great job. First of all you explained in alot of detail about this new species of animal. You included who, what, when, where, why and how all in your review of this article. Climte although is the thing that is effecting these animals after all. Without that the article would have holes, good thing you did explain that. Finally you gave the animal itself and how interesting it was. I was intreged that there is a frog that preys on birds, i had never heard of that before. Though your article is great in these aspects there are some cracks in the cement. First things first you should check your spelling. Also you included that there is an organization that helps out with these animals. You could have also told me what they did. Overall this article was very well written and informed me on a topic that I have never heard about before. Keep up the good work Jackie
