Kreier, Freda. “Earth's Lower Atmosphere Is Rising Due to Climate Change.” Science News, 5 Nov. 2021, https://www.sciencenews.org/article/earth-lower-atmosphere-rising-climate-change-troposphere.

I read the article “Earth's Lower Atmosphere Is Rising Due to Climate Change” written by Freda Kieler. This article gave a short summary of how climate change is impacting the earth's lower atmosphere, the troposphere. According to the article the troposphere is rising at a rate of 50 to 60 meters per decade. In the words of the author Freda Kieler “ as greenhouse gases trap more and more heat in the atmosphere, the troposphere is expanding higher into the atmosphere.” Essentially the excess of greenhouse gasses has raised the temperature. The new higher temperatures have pushed up the atmosphere due to the basic law that heat rises. The author states even though most weather occurs in the troposphere the weather should not be impacted due to its rising.

While this new finding does have some major implications on our current society it is an important reminder on how much climate change can impact our world. We are producing ridiculous amounts of greenhouse gasses, and this is another important reminder that climate change is very dangerous. While these findings aren’t particularly threatening, the “retreating glaciers and rising sea levels” are more alarming.  Climate change is a topic that is talked about very often but unfortunately has not seen enough efforts in order for its effects to be slowed.

While this article was very insightful it could’ve been improved. The article was very short which restricted the reader from fully understanding the topic. The author also did not fully expand on the article's significance to society. To solve these issues the author could’ve expanded the article several more sentences. To conclude the article the author could’ve added another sentence that gave more information as to how important climate change is. Despite these shortcomings the author still successfully wrote an interesting and informative article. The author wrote an article that touched on an important issue and employed statistics effectively to convey information. All in all the article was informative and interesting but could’ve been further explored.
