On
Saturday December 7th, China became the third country to join the
moon club; along with the United States and Russia. This is a very big deal for
China as they are trying to grow as a country to become a respected world power
and become a major presence in space. The fact that they joined the
“international deep-space exploration club” means that they now share all the
resources on the moon with all the other members. Inside the Chang’e (the space
craft that landed on the moon) there was a solar-powered rover called Jade
Rabbit that explored the Bay of Rainbows, a smooth part of the moon. While this
feat is great for China it has raised some worries among American politicians
because they fear that America will become irrelevant in space within a couple
of decades.
This
is incredibly important because China is a growing force in the world and the
country has growing plans for their future in space. If everything goes well
for the growing country they will become the second country to have humans go
to the moon and come back. China might also be the only country to have an
operating space station by the year 2020 because the international space
station is going to be dismantled. Chinas station would be much smaller but
would still be the only working one.
This
was a very well written article and it also gave a lot of good information. The
article had a lot of detail and background information. The article was a
little hard to understand and it would have been very interesting to hear if
anybody at NASA had any plans or a way to keep up with the Chinese and their
space endeavors but overall the article was really good.
Buckley, Chris. "As Rover Lands,
China Joins Moon Club." New York Times 14 Dec. 2013: n. pag. NYtimes.
Web. 15 Dec. 2013.
Katie did a great job reviewing this article, there were a few reasons that caused this review to stand out from the rest. First off, Katie's writing was great, the review flowed really well and it was easy to understand. Katie also did a good job of stating a few important facts that were presented in the article. Finally I thought how she gave a suggestion to "hear of anybody at NASA had any plans or a way to keep up with the Chinese and their space endeavors" this was insightful and it added a nice touch to her review.
ReplyDeleteKatie did a great job writing this review, however, there were a couple things she could have improved on. Katie could have elaborated on a few of the facts she stated to help the reader get more of an in-depth understanding of the topic. Secondly, it would have been nice if Katie added her own opinion regarding China's newfound success in lunar landings.
I was impressed by the quality of both the review and the article but the fact that China has the capability to reach the moon is a bit troubling. This might be forshadowing the end of the era of the United States being the lone global superpower.
I really enjoyed reading Katie’s article because of how short and simple it was. Katie’s article was very elegant in how it flowed very quickly and concisely. I also really enjoyed how Katie tied this into how China is catching up to the US and if the US doesn’t start to pick it, China will soon pass them in most fields. Finally, I think Katie had a very nice critique of the article she read. She didn’t an excellent job in pointing out what the article didn’t have and what the article needed so that if we wished to pursue this topic we knew what we had to look for.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that Katie could have added to better this review would be to add more details on the launch itself; expense, time, what was learned from it. Also, Katie leaves us with the idea of china putting a man on the moon. This is very suspenseful and very important as well so I would have liked it if Katie had added something about China’s preparations to try and put a man on the moon. This information however may not have been present in the article so it may not even be Katie’s fault. Otherwise, this was a very well written review and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It amazed me that china landed a rover on the moon because I hadn’t expected them to be so close to catching the US in space travel. It really shows that the world is getting further along technologically and soon space travel may become a common thing.
Katie Canty did a good job of reviewing the article "As Rover Lands, China Joins Moon Club" by Chris Buckley. It is very well written, clear, and interesting. I was especially interested in how much China has grown and changed and how hard they are working to become a real world power. Katie also kept her summary very clear and concise making this review very easy to follow. After reading it I felt that I had a basic understanding of the major points of the article. Finally, I felt that she did a good job of tying this to humans and especially the United States.
ReplyDeleteThere were two things that I think Katie could have done a better job on. First, I thought that her critique could have been more detailed and thought out. I felt like it was kind of rushed through and took away from the review. Second, I felt that she could have gone into more detail about the moon landing, and other reasons China did it besides becoming a world power. It would have also helped if she went into a little more detail about the politics of this and what this landing means to the US which has no current space program.
This article taught me a lot, I didn't even know that China was competing in the space program and also didn't realize that the ISS is going to be dismantled in only a few years. This would give China a gigantic advantage in Space exploration and science.
Katie did a great job of reviewing this article. One thing I liked was that her review was short, simple, and to the point. The review stayed interesting and didn’t drag on. Another thing that I liked was that she summarized the article well and gave us important details about the event. She also did a great job of explaining why China landing on the moon is such an important event. One thing Katie could have done better was give us some background information on what’s happening in space right now. She also could have further explained why some Americans are worried about no longer being relevant in space. Overall, Katie’s review was very informative and I learned a lot about what’s going on in space with China.
ReplyDeleteKatie did a really nice job reviewing this article. She included main details and explained what the article was in grave enough detail to understand what the point of her article is. This article was very interesting because I was never well aware of the growth of China, and China taking this leap into space is HUGE. I also liked how Katie made her review easy to follow and kept her work all in one tense, not skipping back and fourth on the timeline throughout space. I also like Katie's critique of the article. She explained what she liked in the article, and what she was expecting in the article that she thought could have made it better.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Katie had a well written article, two things I did not like were the fact that she didn't explain the article with more details. Although her review was easy to understand and follow, I wish I knew more about it and the fact that she didn't explain more about the rising of China and how this REALLY affects the US. for instance, is the US doing anything about this? will there be a active space program in the US? How will this affect the political rates of the US?
Overall, Katie had a very well written article and I learned about how china is catching up in the space journey, and that soon enough in time, the US will fall back in the space race, and soon China will be the only active space program.
I think Katie did a great job reviewing this article. I liked how she kept the article short, but still stating all of the important information. I also liked how the ideas were connected and the review flowed. I also liked how Katie discussed the fact that China is catching up to the US, and will outdo us in a lot of categories if we don’t start to pick it up soon.
ReplyDeleteAlthough this was incredibly well written, there were a few things that could’ve made it better. I would’ve liked if she included the title of the article and the author somewhere. I also think she should’ve included her opinion of this launch somewhere.
The fact that China has reached the moon concerns me a little. There has been a lot of talk about China’s future dominancy, and this is making it seem like they’re getting closer to that point.
I believe that Katie’s review of the article “As Rover Lands, China Joins Moon Club” by Chris Buckley was very good. One aspect of the review that I liked a lot was how the review itself was very brief and to the point, this allowed me to read the review without losing interest. Another aspect of this review that I believe was done well was how she put a good amount of detail in her summary overall. This gave me the power to really grasp the issue that the reviewed article was about. One last aspect of the review that I enjoyed was how she included how the Chinese have begun to win the space race. This allowed me to realize that China might become very prominent nation in space in the near future.
ReplyDeleteEven though Katie’s review was well done I still have suggestions for her that I believe would benefit the review. One suggestion I have for Katie is to have added how the main issue of the article affected her personally. Another suggestion I have is for to have included more on how the Chinese might be putting a man on the moon, this would have made the review even more interesting.
After reading Katie’s review I was impressed by how far China has made it in their space program. This news is also in a way unsettling for the US might soon be in the shadow of the Chinese as they begin to win the space race.
I really liked Katie's article review because it was short, sweet, and to the point. Katie did not pontificate, meaning she did not go on and on writing pointless words to just confuse the reader. She also put a good amount of detail in her summary of the article giving us good, solid facts. Finally, I also liked how Katie had all of her ideas flow really nicely together so we could easily read form one idea to the next idea.
ReplyDeleteHowever I did not like that she did not include how she felt about this and how if it would affect her. I also did not like how she did not include the process of how they got the man on the moon.
Overall, I did think the article was very well done and she flowed her ideas really nicely, even though I think there were some areas where Katie could have improved on.
