Sorry, Vegans: Brussels Sprouts Like to Live, Too

This article is about the controversy over how extreme a human’s diet needs to be when it comes to being vegan. A vegan is someone who omits all animal products from their diet. Scientists have studied the products that vegans do eat, plants, in fine detail. Researchers of plants are still surprised about the information they observe about plants everyday. Information is being proven by in-depth studying of plants, such as, that they have many qualities that animals do. For example, plants can sense the presence of other chlorophyllated competitors nearby and try to grow in the opposite direction to avoid a conflict. Also, they recognize different wavelengths of light and can listen to chemical signals as well. These qualities are such that we normally associate with only animals. However, these abilities shown in plants are similar to those abilities obtained by animals. But a vegan is still only considered those who do not eat animal product and consume a great deal of plants in their diet.

This article affects not only vegans, but all humans. The consumption of plants/greens is a necessity to all humans. The fact that plants have many more significant qualities than most people know is very interesting, and is something everyone should be aware of.

Overall I think this was a very interesting science article. I would have never thought about how plants have so many qualities that are similar to animals that scientists have discovered. Although, it makes sense that plants do have so many significant characteristics because they are so important to the existence of human life on Earth.

  1. I highly enjoyed the article that Caroline discussed. She did a great job at explaining how vegans eat. Also, Caroline described the plants having qualities of animals in great detail. I really enjoyed reading the comparison of plants and animals. I think Caroline could have talked more about vegan’s consumption of plants and how that benefits or hurts them. I also think she could have described some experiments they did on plants a bit more. In all, I think the way she said how vegans are incorrect in the way they think plants do not “live” like animals is the highlight of the article.

  2. Caroline, Merry Christmas, I found your review quite interesting. First of all Brussels Sprouts are one of my favorite vegetables and I find the Vegan life style rather odd so your review was appealing to read. I think you did a very good job of summarizing the article and I found it very refreshing to see the article start by saying “This article is about”, maybe I’m crazy but I feel like most of the reviews don’t start like that. I also enjoyed that your article was so darn short, it was easy to read, and since I hate bloging the shortness made it a little better for me. There were a couple of things I think you could have improved on though, you could have used less interesting words that would have made the review a tad bit less difficult to read, even though it wasn’t that difficult to read in the first place, and you also would have made your paragraphs better if they hadn’t been such awkward lengths. I learned from this article that plants can “recognize different wavelengths of light and can listen to chemical signals as well”, which I find fascinating.

I thought Caroline did an excellent job on her article review. She did a good job putting in detail to make it interesting. Also the comparison to plants an animals was very interesting and kept my attention. Finally I really liked your second paragraph and how you layed out to us what this article means to people. To improve the review I would even out the paragraphs. Also Caroline could have gone into more detail about how the scientists came to their conclusions. This was a very interesting review and it makes me think about what really is the difference from plants and animals.

  4. Caroline did a great job on reviewing this article. I liked how she gave the example to explain how many plants have such similar characteristics to animals. She also did a great job summing the summary to very simple language that I could understand. Except the main example was a little confusing because of the wavelengths part. But otherwise she did a fantastic job and it was very interesting that she gave this look on plants to vegetarians. GOOD JOB CAROLINE!!

  5. Caroline did a great job on her article review about plants. I liked how she described how plants have characteristics like animals, such as the ability to sense competition with other plants around them. She did a very good job of keeping everything simple and not using complicated words, which made it easy to comprehend. The only part that was confusing was when she tried to explain wavelengths, I did not understand that. But overall Caroline did a great job on her article review.

  6. This article was very interesting as it showed relations to humans and their diets in their everyday life. I loved how Caroline clearly summarized the article and made her point fairly straight forward and easy to read. The scientific knowledge used to support this theory was very well presented and made it easier to understand and ultimately believe what is being said. Brussel sprouts are very nutritious and for vegans to understand that plants are very much alive is a great point that should be put across more strongly. People must understand the science behind living things and what can be classified as living or non-living.
To improve this article is a tough job because it was very well done but I do think that this article was a little lacking in length and could have possibly added more components to her review. To add to this I also think that some experimental evidence could have been incorporated to insure that this review can truly be understood.

I was very impressed overall by the presentation of the article review and don't have much criticism.

Caroline did a great reviewing this article. She made clear points and was concise. The summary was fun to read because it was well thought out and well written. Caroline supported the theory and made sure the important parts of the article had emphasis. I thought that this article was very interesting, and I thought that it argued an interesting point, because Brussels sprouts are a staple in vegan’s diets. I thought that this article was lacking in the more or less scientist reasoning and experiments. Also i thought that caroline couldeleborte a little more about differnt components of the article. Overall i thought that is was an interesting article and great review! NICE JOB CAROLINE!
