Move Your Body, Power Your Cellphone

Everybody always worries about their cellphone "dying" on them when there is no charger to be found, but now there is no need to anymore. In the article Henry Fountain describes a new invention, a chip that takes the energy from a person's body movement and converts it to energy that you could charge a cellphone with. They plan on first putting the chip into shoes and hope to one day be able to implant into peoples' chests.

This affects our lives because it would make charging our portable devices much easier and less time consuming because you would not have to wait for your phone to charge you could just take it with you where ever you go. It would also eventually make people somewhat like cyborgs.

I enjoyed the article. It was very factual and got right down to the point. It also gave interesting facts i.e. "The act of breathing — of moving the ribs to draw air into the lungs and expel it — can generate about a watt of power."

  1. I thought that Josh did a good job with the article “Move your body, power your cell phone.” I thought that Josh did a good job in keeping his review of the article simple and concise. Nothing about his review was the least bit confusing, and I understood exactly the point that he and the article wanted to get across. I also agreed with Josh’s critique of the article, because with peoples reliance today on technology, it is a practical solution that would make life much easier for people.

I think Josh could have improved upon his review by making it longer. It was very short, and while that made it appealing on some levels and easy to read, I still had lots of questions when I was done reading it. I would have liked to have learned some more information about something that could change our lives so much. Also, I think Josh could have given a better less scary explanation of what scientists may do with this chip in the future. Personally, I don’t mind putting one in my shoe, but having one implanted in my chest sounds scary!

Before reading Josh’s article, I was obviously aware that having to wait for a cell phone to charge can be frustrating, since it has happened to me before. However, I never knew that scientists were trying to come up with new ways to allow people to charge cell phones on the go. I just didn’t think that such a “chip” could ever be possible. From this article, I learned about new technology that will most likely become a huge part of human life in the near future.

  2. Josh’s review on the article “Move your body, Power your Cell phone” was very interesting to me because it told me of an alternative way to generate power. The article shows well on how a chip inside a shoe, or even the body, can make energy that can be used to power an electronic device. It gives good examples on why this would be good, such as the prevention of your phone dying and how people need electronics to live their lives. The concept of the chip is explained well on how this would be used to help human lives, making life more convenient and easier.
The review could have gone more in depth about how the chip is to be implanted into the body. I am wondering if the chip is to go inside the body or stick on the outside of it. Also, I wish that the review goes more into how the energy can be accessed after being stored. If the energy cannot be accessed, what is the use of the energy in the first place?
After reading this review, I was amazed on how the human body can be used to even create energy now for our use. Even now, more uses for our body are being discovered and can be used for the greater good. I am now wondering how this invention will lead human lives of the future, since we can now create energy to power our own electronic devices with simple actions like moving.

  3. I enjoyed reading Josh’s review of “Move Your Body, Power Your Cellphone”. Josh did a great job of telling us the main point of the article. I also thought that he did a great job in telling us what the scientists plan to do with the chip. His review was very readable and no one would be confused from reading his review. I also thought that Josh made the summary not too long and also included the important details needed to understand the article. Finally, I thought Josh summarized the article in a way that made me want to read the real article and find out more about these chips.

One part that I think Josh could improve on is that he did not explain the idea of the chip enough. I thought he could have explained how the scientists created this chip. I also thought that Josh could have told us which scientists were creating these chips and what caused them to come up with this new idea. Josh could have been more elaborate in explaining how the chip works. He also could have explained if there are or would be any complications with this type of chip.

After reading Josh’s review I learned that scientists are trying to create technology to run on the energy made by our bodies. Before this I did not think that a chip of this sort would ever exist but after hearing this article it made me think about the future and how different the technology will be from the technology we have now. Overall Josh did a fantastic job in reviewing the article.

  4. Josh did a very good job with this article. Firstly, he made it simple to understand which made it easy and enjoyable to read. Also, he made it very revelvant by saying how everyone always worries about this. Lastly, his article got right to the important points.

Although josh did a great job, he could have improved his review by explaining things a little bit more. I agree with rosalie when she says this his article left us with unanswered questions. Also, Josh could have maybe given a little bit more background on this topic.

Before reading this review i had no idea that breathing could generate a lot of power and this could somehow be used for cell phones battery life. it is truly ammzing how technology can advnance like this.

  5. Joshua's review of this article I found very interesting. I love the fact that people are starting to make new and very handy inventions today. I love how you could use this new charger to charge your phone wherever you are. I find the whole process of how it takes energy from the movements of your very own body. To improve this article I would have definetely made it a little bit longer because I found myself wanting to know more about this chip after reading. Another thing I would do is write about the whole process of this chip and go into more detail about how it works. Before reading this article I had no idea of any portable charging devises which has shown me about in this review

  6. This article review was very interesting. The review was simple and short, but got to the point. Also, Josh didn't use very big words, making it even easier to understand. Finally, he was very good at explaining how the article was important to society.

His review was short and to the point, which was good, although it was extremely vague. More could have been explained on how the power generated could be transferred to the cell phone. Also, I am somewhat worried on the how the chip gets implanted into the chest...Is there some type of surgery done? Because I wouldn't see the point of having surgery performed simply to charge your phone (unless the chip can power even more things).

This review appealed to my interests a lot. I was fascinated by how humans are becoming more and more technologically advanced. It makes me wonder about how things will in just a couple of years, and if people will actually be walking around with phone charges implanted in their bodies.

  7. After reading Josh Geiling’s article, Move Your Body, Power Your Cell Phone, I was amazed by the information that I read. To begin, Josh really presented his review very well. First, he chose a topic that most people are very interested in, including me, which are cell phone problems. Not only did he do that, but he picked the biggest one, your battery dying. Another good thing that Josh did was clearly explained the science behind it. He talked about how the movement of your chest while breathing could be harnessed for energy, and we do this all the time! The last thing that he presented very well was what the goals are. He talked about how right now, the chip could be put in shoes, but someday, could be implanted in human beings’ chests. When he did this, it gave me a better understanding of where these chips were going to be in the next few years.
Although I thought the review was excellent, there are areas for minor improvements. For one, expand on the topic a little more, discuss what they look like and what companies would be selling them. I would love to know the basic science that goes into making the chip as well. Is it man made, machine made, or are most of the materials found in nature? Go into depth more. The other thing that needs improving is the details in his review. In his review, the details are few and concise. Discuss more details about everything about the inventor to all of the products that the chip is compatible with. I would find the article even more interesting if I knew more about it.
I was very impressed with this article in particular. The topic hits home, if I had a nickel for every time my phone died, I’d be rich! This problem is faced by Americans, every second of the day, and I now know that people are doing something about it.

  8. This review "Move Your Body, Power Your Cellphone" by Josh was a very brief yet great description of the article. The review was not confusing at all, and was very easy to understand. He also wrote about it in a way that made you want to learn more about these chips. Lastly, it showed us how people are trying to be more friendly to our planet, by using less electricity or energy.

This review was very good, but it was a little short, it could've included a few more facts and some details. Second how would you be able to put the chip into your chest and then remove it to charge something...i think that needed to be explained a little better.

This review was very good because it shows how advanced technology is becoming. Its cool to think of what will be built/made in years to come. It also showed the need to be enviormentally concious which i think is extremly important, especially now.

  9. In this review Josh did a good job of describing the article he chose. Josh was able to explain the microchip well and he was straight to the point. He also did a good job in keeping his review understandable and easy to read. Josh was able to also explain how this microchip could affect society well.
This review could have been better simply if it was longer. Also it could have been more descriptive than it was because he was straight to the point, but he did not really explain anything as descriptively as he could have.
Before reading this article I was not aware of the things that could be used for energy for charging a battery and I am amazed by the things, like someone breathing, that could power a battery.

  10. I think that Josh did a good job reviewing “Move Your Body, Power Your Cellphone.” The review was simple and concise. I found it very easy to read and understand. He included the most essental details from the article which made it easy to understand.
However, he could have gone into more depth and explained the article a little bit more detailed. For example I would have been very interested to understand how they implant the chip, and how the chip is supposed to collect and store energy.
This was a very good review, and overall Josh did a great job. I had never known that it might be possible to charge a cell phone with out plugging it into a charger before I read this article.

  11. I liked Josh’s review of the article, “Move Your Body, Power Your Cellphone.” It was very concise and got down to the point. It was also very informative. I liked how Josh explained how this would affect our lives, and what the potential risk is.

However, I think that Josh could have elaborated on the details of the inner-workings of the device. In addition, I wish he could explain what a “cyborg” is.

All in all, I am still amazed with this technology, and how useful it can be in coming years.
