Ancient Pharaoh Statue Rises again In Egypt

I read an article entitled ‘Ancient Pharaoh statue rises again in Egypt’ by Katia Hetter for CNN.  This article talked about how around 3,000 years ago, a statue of Pharaoh Amenhotep (iii) was toppled over in an earthquake. Then, the statue was restored in the city of Luxor, Egypt by Egyptian and German archaeologists. Back in March, the same group of archeologists, led by the German archaeologist Hourig Sourouzian created two other statues of Pharoh Amenhotep (iii) in March. The same archaeologist heads the temple of Amenhotep (iii) conservation project. The temple of Amenhotep (iii) was erected between 1390 and 1353 BC, according to the World Monument Fund. It was 100 meters wide, and 600 meters long, and only the lower sections remain today. The newly restored statues, the article states, can be found at the funerary temple of Amenhotep (iii.)

This article is very important to humanity today, and the study of the past. It is very important to study the aspects of our past so that we can learn from them, and it is important to restore aspects that are lost over time. Now that we have restored this statue and temple, we can continue to learn from them, studying the type of design that they used, and the techniques that they used to build it. Now that we have practiced the technique of restoring artifacts that have been destroyed or damaged, we can use it in the future to help fix ancient objects that are broken. This process will allow us to further understand the ancient world, as we can restore the objects for further reference.

This article was very informative, but there are a couple of things that could be improved upon. One thing that could be improved is the spacing of the article. I found it confusing when the author began talking about a temple rather than the original statue, and I think that spacing the article out in paragraphs would have helped make the article easier to understand. Another thing that could have been improved upon is how the article strays off of topic, and this made the article confusing at times. Overall, I think that this was a very informative and interesting article, and I was able to learn a lot from it.

  1. I liked Fernanda's article: it talked about a new development about ancient Egypt-something that is very rare nowadays, due to the political strife in the area. The current event told of what happened very clearly, and taught me about something that I did not know even happened. The restoration of ancient tombs is a bold move, as Muslim extremists seem hell-bent on destroying the pyramids and the Sphinx. This restoration project is a sign that things just might get better someday. The review could have used a bit more information, perhaps some information about Amenhotep, but it was otherwise a really good article.

  2. Fernanda did an amazing job. She had lots of information on a new development about Egypt that is very rare. Fernanda explained everything in the article very clearly. She taught me about things I did not know existed and happened. Fernanda should have had more information on Amenhotep. This was a great article with nice and interesting facts.

  3. After reading Nanda's review on the current events that she read, I though that she had done a really good job. There were several things that I really liked about her review. I thought that it was very good that she included statistics like dates and measurements. This made it easier for the reader to understand and imagine how big this temple and statue is and when it was made. A second aspect of her review that I really liked was how she included outside information. She was able to include information on when this temple was erected from another source. It was also very good that she stated the founder or the fund's name in order for them to receive credit for their discovery and input on it. The third thing that I also like about her review was where this temple can now be seen. This is very helpful because it shows that it is open to the public and not being preserved in an enclosed area in a museum. For this artifact to be open to the public is very important because it allows people to know more about the past and its archaeological discovery.
Although this was very good, there are still some things that she can work on and can improve on for next time. The summary of the article that she read was a little confusing. I thought that she could have organized it a little bit better. She jumped around a little bit but overall I understood it pretty easily. Another thing that she could have improved on was, in the last paragraph, she could have given an example on how the author goes off topic. If she had given us an example, the reader could have had a better understanding on what she meant.
I learned a lot from Nanda's review. The one thing that surprised me the most was how a 3,000 year old statue is still standing strong today. I would think that by now, the statue would be "dead" or not even in it's good shape. I think that that is very impressive and that one of the reasons it is in good shapes is because of the archaeologists good work on preserving it.
Over all, I think that Nanda did a very good job on reviewing this article.

  4. Nanda’s review was interesting and easy to understand. First of all, the way she put in measurements, names of Pharaohs, and dates, helped me understand the concept of the article in an easier and quicker way. In addition, I liked how she put in a thorough description of what happened to the statue over the years. By doing this, her article was very precise and easy to understand. Finally, her paragraph about how this article is related to humanity was well written and concise. It showed that she had thought about this question and knew exactly what to say.
Although Nanda’s review was very good, there were some parts that could have been improved. Her first paragraph was a bit confusing and hard to understand. The events did not seem to have a chronological order, by putting this order in place, it would have been easier to understand. Furthermore, on her critique of the article, she talked about what was wrong with the article but not how it could be improved. So, if she had put in a little more description of the article, the paragraph would have been better.
All in all, Nanda’s review was captivating and very interesting to read. I learned about this statue’s restoration, which I had no idea about and it changed my view on our technology that we have now developed.
