A single vape session can harm immune cells in the body.

I read the article A single vape session can harm immune cells in the body by Alison Pearce Stevens. The article starts off by stating that “Last year, nearly one in three high schoolers used e-cigarettes daily or almost daily.” Think about that, one in three high schoolers, one in three people around us. The author further goes on to speak about the heart damage vaping and smoking can cause and how vaping causes oxidative stress in blood. She states that “ ‘But if the oxidative stress becomes imbalanced or excessive, it can be harmful and attack proteins and fats that are part of our cells,’ she notes. Over time, that damage can lead to all types of health problems.” This evidence shows the amount of defects and negative effects.

I believe that the author impacted me as a reader because it showed me how much of our society is vaping. I still can’t get over the fact that 1 in 3 high school students in the United States vapes or smokes e cigarettes. This is an impact in society because it is happening right now. 1 in 3 people our age vape or smoke e cigs, that is currently happening in our society right now. How about the next generation, their stats will be much higher if we don’t change right now and lead by example for them.

Overall, the author had more strengths than weaknesses and didn't need improvements. She  spoke about the negative effects of vaping and did try to view it in a positive light once or twice but she mostly spoke about the negative effects and really opened the readers eyes. All in all, this was a great article that I enjoyed reading.

One aspect of this article review that was well done was the writer's ability to express the relevance of this topic. It was clear that he saw how important the issue of vaping is and the way he expressed his emotion showed the reader the significance and was very gripping. I also felt the writer chose strong quotes from professionals which supported the claims he was making. Lastly, the writer did a very good job stating the main points. I enjoyed how precise this article review was, as I obtained the basic information and message of the article.
Though the simplicity of the summary made the review easy to understand, I would have liked more evidence. The writer was making claims that vaping leads to health problems, but not once did he include what any of these problems could be. The inclusion of such detail would strengthen the argument and further show readers how significant this problem is. Another area for improvement was the strengths/weaknesses paragraph. I think finding improvements can always be found in the pieces one reads and these criticisms are often ways to learn how to improve writing skills. I think in the future, this writer should work to find improvements in what they read. These weaknesses could be as small as not including pictures, but in this case, I would say that the article could have included more detail and evidence.
This article has majorly changed my perception of high schoolers. I was shocked to learn that 1 in 3 people my age vape, an activity that greatly harms one's body and can lead to a long list of future health issues. I always knew that some teenagers vaped, but I definitely was unaware that it was to this extent. In the future I will know to be more cautious of who I chose to be friends with and see if there are ways to help others quit vaping.
