“F.D.A. Authorizes Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Booster Shots”
I decided to write my review on the article "F.D.A. Authorizes Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Booster Shots," written by Noah Weiland and Sarah LaFraniere, and published by the New York Times. Yesterday, October 20, 2021, The F.DA approved Moderna to administer a booster shot for those 65 years and older and those at risk of Covid complications. The booster shot will be delivered at least six months after the recipient's second vaccine dose. The F.D.A. originally approved Pfizer for a third dosage or booster shot last month, so it was no shock that Johnson and Moderna were going to be approved soon for a booster shot as well. "We've already approved it for Pfizer, and I don't see how we can not approve it for Moderna," stated F.D.A member and University of Iowa infectious disease expert, Dr. Stanley Perlman. Also, new data has shown that recipients can now "mix and match" their booster shots. So, if you had received a vaccine with a lower efficacy rate, now you can receive a booster dose of a different vaccine. Since the release of this new strategy, there has been a significant decrease in the Johnson and Johnson booster shot. The Pfizer vaccine will also be tested for the usage of children from ages 5-11. With this extraordinary rate of expansion, the F.D.A. is working very hard to ensure citizens' safety. The Approval of Moderna and Johnson and Johnson booster shots is critical to fighting the Covid-19 crisis and ensuring our protection from the virus.
This article has a tremendous effect on society because there is a greater sense of flexibility with more booster shot options. Being able to choose your booster shot allows a greater sense of control, which is necessary when making such an important decision—also, receiving a booster shot is critical to guarantee your safety.
This was a very well-written article with very credible sources, but a few minor issues could be fixed to make this article more easily understood. The authors used robust evidence, like quotes from F.D.A members or doctors to support their claims. Also, the report includes counterarguments to their claim, which help reinforce their claim. Unfortunately, there was no explanation or background information for many of the topics discussed in the piece. For example, there was an explicit definition of a booster shot or any background information about Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson. So, if the reader weren't aware of what these things mean, then the article would have been bewildering. To fix this issue, the author could have inserted some general information about the vaccines and a booster shot to ensure that there would be no confusion.

In this review, the author Elle Ruhanen reviews an article by Noah Weiland and Sarah LaFraniere from the New York Times about the FDA approving Johnson and Johnson booster shots. First of all, the reviewer’s summary of the article was very well done. Ruhanen quickly and efficiently explains the article and gives the reader a full understanding of the topic. Also, the author's critiques were very good. The reviewer talks about the lack of background information and how this makes the article more difficult to read. Finally, the reviewer relates the article to everyday life well. The author says the shot will make us more safe.
Overall this review was great, but there are things that could have been improved on. For example, the author does not give evidence to back her points. Ruhanen says the article is good and how, but does not give any evidence. Also, the reviewer says the booster shot is needed to be safe, but does not say that only people that are 65 or older and people that are unhealthy can get it. This can mislead the reader.
I learned a lot from this review. Before reading this review I did not know the booster shot had been FDA approved yet. Also, I did not know how much this shot could help us. Hopely this booster shot can get back to normal life soon.

Elle Ruhanens review on the Article “F.D.A. Authorizes Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Booster Shots" by Noah Weiland and Sharon Lafraniere was very interesting and impressive. Ruhanen discusses the authorization of the Moderna and Johnston & Johnston shot. “The F.DA approved Moderna to administer a booster shot for those 65 years and older and those at risk of Covid complications. The booster shot will be delivered at least six months after the recipient's second vaccine dose” (Ruhanen). This information gives us a gist of what the articles discusses and provides. Ruhanen also states the effects of the shot as well as what it is doing for society. “This article has a tremendous effect on society because there is a greater sense of flexibility with more booster shot options. Being able to choose your booster shot allows a greater sense of control, which is necessary when making such an important decision—also, receiving a booster shot is critical to guarantee your safety” (Ruhanen). Ruhanen also critiques the article and gives it a real review. With her opinions on how the article succeeded and failed in ways. “This was a very well-written article with very credible sources, but a few minor issues could be fixed to make this article more easily understood” (Ruhanen). She goes more in depth in relation to her opinion about this article and how it could have been better.
Ruhanens review on this article was overall very impressive. The minor areas where she could have improved would be explaining more about the shots, what they are doing and their role. Going more in depth about this might have been more helpful for the reader. She could have also improved her writing by highlighting key information on how the author did well in the writing and those aspects aside from the critiquing. But overall, a very impressive review.
This article and review is very big news for our world today. It supports one of our world's biggest issues currently and has been an ongoing issue for almost two years. The news Ruhanen is covering can be life changing and I think it was an excellent topic to explain. I can't wait to see what these shots hold for the future and how they will affect COVID-19.
