Herbal Supplements Are Not What They Seem

In the article, Herbal Supplements Are Not What They Seem by Anahad O'connor, it tells us about how herbal supplements that are used to fight off colds are not what they appear to be. Products that are said and labeled to be supplements are really powered weeds and rice which is shown in peoples DNA tests. These supplements have been replaced by cheap products such as wheat and rice. Even some bottles that are said to treat mild depression actually don't contain any of the medicinal herb.

This problem can affect people, because they think they are being treating and they are getting better but really they are being given false supplements. These supplements not only are just not helping people get better who are trying to fight off colds, but also they are faking a product used to fight of serious issues like depression which is a big problem today.

This article was informative and it's a good piece of information to know and make people aware about and let them know that if there really taking something it could be false and not helping them at all. It's an issue that it is good to make people aware of and hopefully if they ever have the problem of having to fight off a cold people can be aware that some herbal supplements are not what they think they are buying.

  1. One thing I liked about this review was how to the point the author was about the topic and the articles goal. The author really leaves no room for confusion since the point of the article is clearly stated in the first paragraph. Also I really liked how the author explained how this problem can affect everyone in their daily lives, and probably already has. Finally, the author states what the herbal supplements actually are, which I found was really necessary, because if anything, that’s what you would need to know from that article.
Something the author could have done better was to list some of the herbal supplements that aren’t what we think they are. This could be very helpful information so that we don’t buy these brands anymore. It was also be nice to know why these herbal supplements no longer work, because they must have worked at one time or another since they are store sold medicines. Was it fewer ingredients added? Or maybe poorer quality ingredients in the medicine? Either would be good to know. Also, even in a review as short as it was, the author had some very long, run on sentences that could have been broken up to make it easier and more understandable to the reader.
I was unaware that the herbal supplements weren’t actually working, but to be honest I’m not quite sure what an herbal supplement would be. That’s another thing would have been helpful to know from the article. But this is a really important issue and something definitely must be done about it

  2. Zoe wrote a well written review. She started off with the title of the article and got STRAIGHT to the point of the article which I liked a lot. I also liked how Zoe compared this problem to everyday life. People who have depression are being falsely treated and they have a serious problem which they might think is being fixed, but really isn't. I also liked how Zoe supported what she wrote with evidence of the certain supplements being forged.
Although this was a well written article, I wish Zoe informed us more about the different supplements and all the effects it takes on daily life. This is a problem that soon needs to be fixed, because it could lead to a lot of other problems like worsening depression and colds that can turn into something worse if not cured. Another thing i would've liked Zoe to do it elaborate on the topic a little bit more. Add details to make her evidence even more solid.
Other then that, Zoe had a well written review, and from this review i learned about the scandal taking place with supplements, and all the effects its taking on daily life. What if this problem doesn't get fixed? Where do we go from there?

  3. Zoe’s current event, Herbal Supplements Are Not What They Seem, was really interesting, she did a very good job of choosing an article that was relevant but people also wanted to read it. She also did a good job of explaining what herbal supplements are because if you didn’t know what they were you could have been confused when reading the post. She also gave plenty of examples when telling us why this is such a big problem today.
One thing she could have done to make her current event better is if she had said how people could stop buying the supplements that aren’t helping you get better. Another way Zoe could have made her post better is if she had given more of a summary in the first paragraph, just to give us a little more detail.
Before reading this post I had no idea that some herbal supplements might not be working. Zoe did a really good job of letting people know new information.

  4. I thought Zoe did a good job of reviewing the article:Herbal Supplements Are Not What They Seem by Anahad O'connor. She had a good and clear summary, with enough details for the reader to understand what happens in the article. She also had a well thought out reason for it being important to human beings. Finally, This review was good because It was short, but contained all of the necessary components and kept the reader interested. There were only a couple of things that I would change to make it better. First, was to go into a little more detail about the herbs and provide the reader with at least one specific example. Another thing that I would change is to provide some details about how many people this has/is affecting and if the numbers are starting to decrease. Overall this was a very good article and I learned a lot about herbal supplements and I realize that I need to be careful with what I am eating and need to make sure it is what it says it is.
