'Interstellar' Science: Is Wormhole Travel Possible?

By Mike wall

Is it possible to zoom through distant corners of the universe? Yes, it is. Wormholes allow rapid travel through widely separated points. Wormholes are possible according to Eienstiens theory however, it is still a question of whether we can and will enter this scientific realm. Worholes are very powerful. Holding wormholes open would require the insertion of something that anti-gravitates such as negative energy.

There was recently a movie that came out called “Interstellar.” This movie helps us explain what a wormhole is and what we are able to do with one. “Wormholes have been a staple of science fiction for decades. Interestingly, Thorne said that one of the genre's most famous titles helped inspire scientists to try to better understand the hypothetical structures.” Wormholes can take us to different galaxy’s, allowing us to explore new life and planets.

I thought this article was excellent. I was very interested to learn about what else our world has to offer. I did not know a lot about wormholes and was able to get a deep and thoughtful explanation as to what they are. I like how the author related his studies to a movie. This caught my attention even more and now I am interested in watching the film, “Interstellar.”

Colin’s review of “‘Interstellar’ Science: Is Wormhole Travel Possible?” was quite brief. In his summary, he had very few details. In addition, he failed to explain what a wormhole is, which would have been helpful since he kept referring to wormholes. Lastly, he states that the article was excellent, but an example to support that should be added. On the other hand, Colin’s article choice was interesting. I have never heard of a wormhole before reading his review and his chosen article. Also, Colin did a good job of opening his reviewing. He started with a question that grabbed my attention. Another positive thing Colin did was adding a sentence on why wormholes are important, Colin helped the reader understand why this article was worth reading. He states that wormholes allow us to explore new planets and potentially life. I found this piece of information very interesting and I am now curious to watch “Interstellar” as well.

Colin's review of this article was alright. First, I liked that he used the correct format because it keeps the review organized and easy to read. Secondly, I like how he added a quote because it gives opinions in the review from other people, and makes it more interesting. Lastly, I liked how he picked a topic outside the norm, and reviewed something not talked about before. There were also many things Colin could have improved. First, he should have explained what a wormhole is because I think most people reading this article wouldn't know. Also, he needs to edit his grammar. For example, the quote he added was confusing because the quote should have ended after the word decade, and he carried it on for too long. ONe ting about this review that really amazed me was that wormhole travel, according to scientists, is in fact possible.

For my current events assignment this week, I read Colin’s article, titled, “Interstellar Science: Is Wormhole Travel Possible?” What I really liked about this article was that it was well written. When going over it, I saw no mistakes in grammar or spelling. I also thought that his thoughts were dived up well, separating his ideas into three paragraphs. Finally, I thought he did a very good job of explaining an extremely tough concept, in wormholes, in a very short a concise way.
Although his article was great, there were a few more things he could’ve done to make it even better. First off, I would’ve liked to see him expand on some of his ideas, for example he said wormholes are very powerful but it would’ve been nice if he gave us an example showing how powerful they really are. Also, I thought his beginning was a little shaky because I was confused and had no idea what he was talking about for the first few sentences.
What I found very amazing about this article was that some of the heavily edited scenes in the movie, “Interstellar,” that I recently watched actually exists in real life.

I chose to review Colin McCloskey review of the article “ 'Interstellar' Science: Is Wormhole Travel Possible?” by Mike Wall. I thought that the review was very sort and could use more details. He talks about he came up with the theory and it was nice that he had a quote. He however never told the reader what a wormhole was and how they work and those are things that would be nice to know when reading this review. I think he needs to make his review longer and have more details. I thought it was interesting that through wormholes we can explore new planets and life. However this review needs more facts to make it good.

For my current events comment, I reviewed Colin’s write-up of the article, “’Interstellar’ Science: Is Wormhole Travel Possible?” There were many things that I thought Colin did well with his review. I really liked how he started his review with a question that grabbed my attention. He also gave a really interesting description of what wormholes can allow us to do. Another thing Colin did well in his review was explaining how the article was important to humanity. His write-up helped me to understand that these wormholes can take us to different planets, therefore allowing us to explore new life and planets. A third thing that Colin did well with his write-up was that he did a very good job explaining what he thought of the article and why he chose it and how it relates to the movie “Interstellar.” After reading his review, I definitely would like to learn more about wormholes and also see the movie.
Although Colin did a good job with his review, there were a few things he could have done better. I would have liked it if Colin included a more detailed description of what wormholes are. I understood from his write-up where wormholes can take us, but I still do not really understand what wormholes are exactly or how we get access to them. Colin also could have improved his write-up by proofreading it because he had a few typos.
From Colin’s write-up, I learned that wormholes can have a large impact on our world. They can take us to different galaxies, therefore allowing us to explore new planets and whether there is life on them. I learned that according to Einstein’s theory, wormholes are possible. However, it is a question of whether we have the technology to enter them. And if we did have the technology, would we enter the wormhole anyway? I would like to understand whether it is as easy to get back to earth in a wormhole as it is to travel to the far corners of the universe. I definitely would be interested to learn more about wormholes as scientists continue to research them.

    Current Event Review

Colin’s review of his article was very interesting. One reason I thought his article was well presented was because he managed to provide his own theories on what human could do if we were able to access and use wormholes. A second thing I thought was well presented was how he was able to explain what you would would have to do to keep a wormhole open. A final thing I thought was well presented was how Colin included a quote from the article, making his review seem much more credible. While I did like Colin’s review, there were several things I thought he could improve on. One thing I felt he could improve on was adding much more detail to his article overall, as it seemed a little short and lacking explanation. To correct this he could just spend a little more time on his review, adding in details. A second thing I felt he could improve upon was giving an explanation on how wormholes form, because after reading the review I still felt confused about the concept of them. He could improve this just by adding in an extra sentence or two in the beginning. One thing that impressed me after this review was the concept of how you can travel so quickly from one place to another using wormholes. This changed my perspective on many thing I considered laws of science, but were apparently not.

Colin's review of "'Interstellar' Science: Is Wormhole Travel Possible?" was interesting and taught me things I had never considered before. One thing I liked about his review was his references to the movie “Interstellar.” These examples, such as stating that the movie explains what a wormhole is and how it could be used, gave the audience ideas for places they could go to get more information if they were curious about wormholes. Another thing that I enjoyed about Colin’s review was his discussion about the article. The explanation he gave about the article’s “deep and thoughtful” explanation of wormholes makes me want to read the article in the hopes of developing a deeper understanding of wormholes. A third thing that Colin did well in his review was explaining how wormholes work. This explanation was deep enough to help the reader understand the article but not so deep that it was hard to understand. One thing that I think Colin could have gone into more detail on was his explanation of the importance of wormholes. He mentioned that wormholes would allow us to travel to other galaxies, but it might have been good to hear about when we might be able to use wormholes and how often we would be able to use them. Another thing that I didn’t enjoy about Colin’s review was that he didn’t include any citations. This made it harder to find the article if you were interested in further research on wormholes. It was very new to me that wormholes were real and could actually be traveled, which is something that I would like to learn about and could seriously affect our lives in the future by helping us travel to far corners of the universe and could potentially lead to us discovering more about the universe.
