European landing on a comet.

This article was about the effort done by the European space agency to land on a comet. The purpose of the mission is to get a further understanding of a comet itself and its surroundings. The space craft is unmanned and has been on its way for this comet for 10 years.  In order for the craft to land on the comet it was to harpoon the comet and then pull itself in. This is because of the lack of gravitational pull. When it was reached the surface it will collect many different samples from simple rock samples to the gas surrounding the comet. There has also been concerns regarding the departure from the comet though there are no major worries. This expedition will help scientist better understand comets and their surroundings.

This article spoke to me because during my life time there has been almost no landings anywhere. Therefore I found it interesting because it is something that does not happen every day. This expedition is also very important to humanity since there is so little know about comets. If this is successful it will bring knowledge that we did previously not know about.

The author uses a lot of good quantitative data which helped me understand the article better in the sense of facts. Even though he used many good facts about the topic he did not explain the facts origin or were the facts came from. Overall this was a good interesting article.

  1. This was a very good article review by Fabian Kerj. His review was very informational, yet a little brief. One thing that Fabian did well was his summary. He went very in deep and the summary was very informational. It gave the readers of his review a good idea of what the article was about. Another thing that Fabian did well was stay away from grammatical mistakes. There were very few or even no grammatical mistakes in this review. A third thing that Fabian did well was his final paragraph. His final paragraph about his critique of the author was good because he imported his opinion on what the author of the article could have done, to improve the original article. One thing that Fabian could improve on is his second paragraph. In this paragraph he told us what this article's effect was on his personal life was. He did not go very far in depth on this topic and this paragraph could have been improved. Another thing that Fabian could do better was include a MLA formatted citation. This article review was very informational and I learned a lot. The main thing that I learned was the whole point of this article, the idea of landing a space craft on a comet. I had never heard of this until now and it sounds like a very good idea. This would be a good expansion of our knowledge of space because comets are something that humans to not know too much about. This would be very educational for all humans and especially astronomers. Overall, this was a very interesting and informational article review by Fabian Kerj.

  2. The first paragraph of Fabian's review reflects his ability to succinctly communicate a complex idea. He summarizes the entire article in just eight sentences, and after reading them I feel like I read the article myself.
He also uses complex wording like, "...it was to harpoon the comet and then pull itself in." without his grammar suffering.
Thirdly, he points out specifically where the author did well, like in using lots of quantitative data, and where he needs improvement, like explaining where the data came from.

Fabian could look over his work again for spelling and punctuation errors.
He should also cite specific examples from the article to back up his points, especially in his last paragraph.

One thing that stood out to me was the space craft's landing method. A harpoon sounds very different from the Apollo landings, so I will have to look more into that.

  3. Fabian did a great job of clearly reviewing the article in the summary. It was short but explained the entire article in a brief way. His writing was also written very nicely and with very few grammatical errors, which helped it be clearer. Fabian also briefly stated how it reflects on our society now and personally to him.
Two things Fabian can improve on are: quoting the article to get specific information or from professionals, and to include a citation, which was added to the new rubric.
I agreed with Fabian that it is interesting to hear new news on comets and during our lifetime. It is exciting for new science to be discovered.

  4. "European Spacecraft Set to Harpoon a Comet." ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, n.d. Web. 08 Dec. 2014. .

In Fabian’s review, he did a good job of briefly summarizing the article. I was able to understand the main idea without having it be too lengthy. In addition, he did a nice job of stating the relevance of the article to our lives. He said if the mission is successful, then we will be able to learn more information about comets. Another thing he did well was his critique on the author’s writing. He made a great point by stating that the author included quantitative data that furthered his understanding on the subject of the article. On the other hand, Fabian missed a couple things. Although he did a good job summarizing the article, he could have explained a few things for the reader. For example, he says that the craft will have to harpoon the comet, but his classmates that read this, including myself, will not know what this means. Another thing he could improve is including the proper citation. Although he missed a few things, I thought he reviewed an article that seems very interesting. Before reading this, I was not aware of this space mission. Hopefully the mission is successful and brings back new, useful information about comets.

  5. This week for my current events article, I read Fabian’s review of, “European Spacecraft Set to Harpoon a Comet.” What I really liked about his review was how he explained the science behind it saying how the ship would go about landing on a comet. I also liked how he explained the importance of this event stating that this would be the first of its kind, allowing us to analyze the comet and learn new things. Finally, I liked Fabian’s review of the article because he was able to point out the flaws in the author’s writing. Most of the time people just say that the article was well written.
Although Fabian’s article was good, there were a few things that he could’ve done to make it even better. First off, I would’ve liked to know what agency was running this mission; he was a little vague in saying that it was just a European space agency. Also he talks about quantitative data in the article, but does not bring any of the facts in the article summary.
What really amazed me was that this mission has been in the making of over ten years and this is the first that I, and undoubtedly many others, have heard about this important mission.
