A new study shows that sitting up straight gives you confidence in your own thoughts. Researchers found that people who have good posture were more likely to believe thoughts they wrote down while in that posture concerning whether or not they were qualified for a job. If they were slumped over, they had negative thoughts about whether they were qualified for the job or not. People think that sitting up straight looks better to other people. But, you also convince yourself that you look better; therefore, you have positive thoughts about yourself.
This article affects everyone in general. By reading this article, people will be more aware to have good posture. This article convinced me that having good posture will help me in many ways. Whether it’s thinking positive thoughts about myself or other people thinking positive thoughts about me, sitting upright, in my opinion, is the way to go.
This article could have been better if it provide a little less detail. I think the amount of detail in this article confused me and threw me off topic. I also think the people who wrote this article could have been clearer about what it meant to have “confidence in your own thoughts”. Finally, I think this article could have been better if they elucidated more about how they went about experimenting this. Overall, this article was very interesting to me.

I reckon that Nell illustrated the point of this article very frankly and straight forward which made it more enjoyable to read. She did a good job in her summarizing and I thought that the second paragraph about how this article relates to society was very well conveyed because of her thoughts and interest in the topic.
ReplyDeleteAlthough her summarizing was well executed I do think that she lacked in details which overall resulted in many questions by the reader. Nell did not include many theories as to why this happens nor did she give any reasons behind this theory. Her explanation of the article was easy to read yet very brief and quick.
What I did learn from this was how posture improves self esteem and encourages positive thinking among society. I was also impressed by her interest in this subject which made it more easy to read and less boring. Overall, good job Nell!

This article takes a commonly believed idea that body posture affects confidence and tries to prove it scientifically. The article was interesting and simple to understand. Good posture is meant to lead to a good impression. What is surprising is that good posture influences the way we see ourselves. Nell summarized the basic points well and kept my interest during her discussion of this article. Her summary did not include how the applicants knew when to sit up or slouch down. Sitting up led to more confidence in one’s thoughts which could be negative or positive. One would think having good posture would lead to more positive thoughts overall, eliminating one’s negative thoughts. This was not explored in the study. However, this idea was not explored in this study. Overall, this article was worthwhile to read and it is useful to keep in mind to sit up straight.
ReplyDeleteNell did very well summarizing this article. It was very clear and strait forward. This topic automatically made me interested. The fact that the way you hold you body up could change your perspective on life. In her first article I liked how she related it to how a person would think of themselves and how it would make them have better thoughts.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I liked how her summary was strait forward I think it lacked detail. Because of the article's confusing detailed explanations, I understand why she didn't put examples in, but she could have tried to "dumbed" down the explanations.
I personally will use this information when I can, and when I'm with someone who is feeling bad, this might help. This was a great summary Nell!
This review was well presented in many ways. For one, it is explained thoroughly and its still easy to understand. It also gives examples, which could explain a question that you might have. And finally, I like the article itself because it relates to your everyday life. One thing that could've made this review better would be if there was more details about the affects of thinking more positively. Also, there was no reason as to why or how this happens. Overall, this was a very well written article and it was very informational!
ReplyDeleteNell did a fantastic job at reviewing this article. She was very concise and strait to the point which kept my attention throughout her entire summary. Along being being very thorough, she presented a few good supporting details which was good. Her examples that supported her thoughts were a good connection between the facts and real life. Her article caught by eye from the start and made me sit up strait while writing my comment. It immediately made me focused and want to read more. I enjoyed the way that Nell told us that the position of your body will effect your thoughts. When you slouch this may reflect your view of yourself. One's self esteem can be shown through the way that you hold yourself upright in a chair and portray confidence through your body's posture.
ReplyDeleteI can say with no doubt that this article was a tough read for anyone but Nell did a good job summarizing it in her own words. This article was very interesting I can suggest that Nell could improve her writings if she elaborated on some of the concepts or facts more. This is because i enjoyed reading her summary so much that I wanted to learn a little bit more from Nell. Adding a few more examples here and there may brighten up her summary to satisfaction!
Moreover, Nell did an amazing job at teaching the class about such an interesting topic. GOOD JOB!

I thought that Nell did a very good job reviewing this article. She got straight to the point an wasted no time getting the message across. I like this article for a number of reasons. First off this article was very relatable. Nell wrote it in a way that allows you to realize this goes on in everyday life. Also Nell gave examples of what she was descRibing. This allows the article to be understood much better. Going along with that I thought Nell did a great job explaining the article in a brief and interesting way. Although I liked the brevity of the article I did think it could have been explained a little better. Also it might have been interesting to teach us the affects of thinking more positively for a person. Overall I think Nell presented a very interesting article pretty well. I was able to learn a lot and I loved the fact that it related so much to everyday life.
ReplyDeleteThis was quite a well-written article about an interesting subject by Nell. One thing I liked about this was how Nell picked an article to write a review about that was a subject that applies to everyone, not certain people. Also, Nell did a great job explaining the human thoughts about why a good posture makes you feel better about your self. Finally, Nell wrote this article in a way that people can relate too. Anyone can read this article and relate to it easily. Although this was a very interesting article, there could have been a few more details about why a good posture makes you feel more confident about yourself. Secondly, adding a few more examples about this topic would be better as well. Overall, this was quite a well presented article about a great relatable topic.

ReplyDeleteArticle review 10/9/09
I think Nell did a very good job summer this article. I think that is was good that she clearly explained the whole article. She restated the key points without adding too much unnecessary detail. I also thought she did a good job giving people and idea of how to actually use good posture to improve you life, it was very helpful. Not only was this review interesting but it really made me want to improve my posture, Nell really got the message through. Overall this review was very good but one thing Nell could have done to make it better was to elaborate on how they discover this fact because it wasn’t very clear. Also because the article was relatively simple she could have used better language to make it more interesting.
Nell did a great job reviewing this article. Nell was clear and got straight to the point, which kept the reader interested and engaged.
ReplyDeleteI too thought that the article was a little hard to get through, but Nell reviewed it in clear English, that was easy for me to read and comprehend. There were not many things that I thought Nell needed to add. But Nell could have added a little bit more about the scientific aspect, and tell us a little more about the "study" on the people that were being tested. I thought both the article and the review were very interesting, I never would have thought that body movement and the way I carry my self affects my mood and attitude. Overall the article and the review were great! Nice Job Nell!
I think that Nell did a superb job breaking down this article for me. Three things that really helped me out were that she used clear, understandable words that made the review an easy yet informative read. Also, she had good grammar, while writing in a form that seems casual or relaxing, as opposed to the science articles we read, which are very formal and use complex vocabulary although not needed. A third thing, as she said, was that after reading this review, I have become more conscious about my posture and how it can affect my peers and I. Some things that could have been better were the details, because I didn’t read anything specific about the research or the results, only that this is proven a hard fact. Another thing that needs improvement was that by reading her opinion on the article, I was thrown off because I was thinking that Nell hadn’t really given enough detail. All in all, I think this was a great topic to choose because I learned that there are many factors to confidence, including how you carry yourself.
