The Polar Ice Caps are melting faster than we expected

The article I read was about the situation in Antarctica. The Ice is melting really fast and much faster than we’d expected. Scientists believed that the ice would melt around the summer of 2080. Recent studies have shown that the ice is much more likely now to melt between 2030 and 2050. This is a major problem for many reasons. The wildlife in Antarctica can only survive in Antarctica because they have been there for thousands of years and they have adapted well to the environment. The animals will die out because they won’t be able to survive in any other environment. Also the oceans will rise because of the melting ice and small islands will be fully submerged in water. This means that many humans and animals will die because of the melting of the ice in Antarctica.

  1. I read Kevin’s article, “The Polar Ice Caps Are Melting Faster Than We Expected.” This article was particularly interesting because it concerned our future. It was about how the polar ice caps were first measured that they would melt around 2080. Recent studies have shown that it might melt as soon as 2030, possibly ending our lives if making Bronxville go underwater. Many species of animals would die and most likely Manhattan would be underwater, not only destroying a city, but killing as many as 10 million people, a little bit more than the population of homeowners in this city. Parts of Florida could also be submerged, completely changing the geographic features of North America and furthermore killing even more people. Kevin wrote it very well and it was easy to read. The review was clear and did not get side-tracked. I also enjoyed how Kevin talked about why the melting of the ice caps was important, and didn’t just leave it unanswered. In order to improve the article, I think that it should be a little more information, just so it is not as vague as it is in some areas. I also think it should be included whether he liked the article or not. I learned more about the polar ice cap situation and I hope to learn more about it, to learn why this is happening, and what has caused this.

  2. Kevin's review of the article "The polar ice caps are melting faster than we expected" was very interesting. I liked how he explained very clearly how the melting of the ice caps would affect the wildlife in the region. I also liked how he was very clear in explaining everything. He did a good job explaining how the melting of antarctica's ice pack would affect the region. One thing he could have done better would have been making his review longer and more detailed. He also didn't explain when the scientists had maken their original results.
I would like to find out what areas would be affected by the melting of the polar ice caps.

  3. Kevin's review was very interesting. I had heard about the ice caps melting, but didn't know much about it, Kevin explained very clearly how the animals are in massive danger and so our we. Also, Kevin was very clear on dates and time this helps the reader really understand the dramatic time difference and think about what they might do to help. Another thing that really got me in Kevin's review was how well he explained everything in such a small paragraph, he put a lot of detail. But I think he could have still made it longer and a bit more detailed. In addition, I think Kevin could have spoken a bit more about the scientists. One thing I am interested in finding more about is what will happen to what places and how to help.

  4. Kevin's review of the article, "The polar ice caps are melting faster than we expected" which was quite interesting. One aspect of the review that was written well, was foreshadowing our future. Kevin wrote that in a mere 22 years, the island of NYC could be underwater, which is scary to think that where we live could be wiped out. Another part that was written well was when Kevin talked about the wild life dying, it would really impact readers who love animals. One last thing that i thought was well presented in the review was at the end when Kevin stated that humans dying. This is upsetting, because we could be some of them, especially because we live so close to the water. One suggestion i would have for Kevin's review is that it could have been a little longer, with more details. Another suggestion i have for Kevin's review is that it that is should have a citation, so that the writer of the article gets credit. I learned more about our global warming effects and i never new just how much damage was being done to our earth. I hope that the government passes laws to prevent global warming soon. I was impressed with the article and its review.

  5. Kevin's review of the article, "The polar ice caps are melting faster than we expected" was extremely informal. One thing Kevin did well was say how the time for the polar ice caps to melt has been predicted earlier no, around 2300 than the estimated time before which was 2800. This also was very interesting for me personally because I am a member in the environmental club so to hear how this could affect my life in NYC made me very interested. Lastly he mentioned the reasons why some of the environment and animals in Antarctica only live there now because of much adaptation over years so without the ice caps these animals/plants would die instantly wiping out many species. A suggestion i have for Kevin was that when he was presenting he could have elaborated on such effects of NY, i believe our class would really take and interest in this article if he did. Another thing Kevin could have done is emphasize the important parts of the article and really give details of this. As i said early i am in the environmental club therefore these articles grab my attention and i would love to learn how this could affect different areas of the world and how.

  6. I was very interested by Kevin's review. What Kevin did well was make the summary short and concise. He also thorughly explained what the problem was. He also wrote the summary well and made it intiguing to the reader.

What he could have done better was maybe include alittle more information, although i said it was short and concise, there still could be a little more. Also maybe use better words.

One thing I learned from this article was the current situation of the melting ice caps and that it is getting worse.
