"What happens when good robots go 'bad'?."

Chemistry 9

Robots used in our lives our considered luxuries, and beneficial, but some robots are a bridge for hackers intruding on your lives. At a recent international conference on ubiquitous computing a handful of potentially harmful scenarios were imagined. These robots are very tricky because they look like toys or appliances. They can be used for different purposes however. A robot is really a little computer that sometimes has a web-cam. These have the ability to hear, see, and sometimes handle things. This article attempted to make people aware of the flaws these robots have. They may be all fun and games and useful until a hacker uses your robot. By hacking into your robot he can possibly hear and see what goes on in your household. These robots could be used for robot spying and even vandalism.

This article applies to my humanity and my life for a number of reasons. Eventually the majority of the population will invest in robots to do their chores and other useful things. This industry grows everyday and over 4 million robotic units have been sold worldwide since 2002. This means that there is a possibility that those robots could be hacked into and used to commit crime against the owner.

I thought that this was a very well written article. It was long, but the writer kept the reader engaged by keeping it very interesting. One thing that was great was it affects humanity and many people can relate to the article. I also thought it was well written in that it showed substantial research had been done to write this article in a correct matter. Overall I thought that the writer did a great job.

  1. “What Happens When Good Robots Go “Bad”?” was an interesting and unusual article. It described what happened when things go wrong with your supposedly helpful robot. Robotic items can be used for a variety of uses-cleaning, simple toys, or as gadgets that can be used to spy on people with sophisticated webcams. This industry seems to be expanding at a rapid rate-it is a 1.6 billion dollar industry. This article presented the presence of what happens when someone hacks into your robot-a lot can go wrong. Cyrus’s summary was well-written, engrossing, and detailed.

One way this article could have been improved is if Cyrus went into more detail about how hackers could have used the robot to spy on humans. I was also confused at how exactly a hacker could hack into a robot, since most robots are not connected to a house's power.

Overall, this summary was startling, and I think it will certainly change the way I and others look at robots. Knowing that household robots could be used to harm our society as well as help it is a surprising realization.

  2. This article by Cyrus was well presented for 3 reasons. The first reason is that the article was very well presented is because it is very easy to understand. Also, Cyrus made a point that was very interesting, which makes you want to read the review. The review was also very detailed which is a definite plus. However, i would have liked to have known how exactly robots can be hacked, and what type of crimes could have been committed by the hackers in the robots. I learned from this article that robots are not all beneficial, and not all things are as they seem.

  3. I thought cyrus had presented this article very well. First things first he did what a blogger should really do and that is shrunk it down to size and gave it a great explaination. Secondly he chose detaisl that were inportant in the article and made it into his own. Finaly I'm pretty sure that he gave us a little detail about what he had known about these robots himself. Though his article had its defining points some others are weak. I would have like to have known more about what these robots are and what they are capable of. I would also have liked to have known how these hackers could take control of the robots and how easy or hard it could be. This article shows you what modern techknowlogy is all about, its strengths and its weaknesses.

  4. I thought that Cyrus did a great job reviewing the article giving the reader a gist of what the long article was about. Luckily this article was not very scientific, and it did not really use large scientific words, and neither did Cyrus's review, which made it easy to comprehend. Cyrus also chose the most important elements of the article which made the review more interesting and exciting. Cyrus also related this topic back to his own life which made us think of our own, and how robots effect us, do we have one? There are not many things that Cyrus needs to work on, but he could have added a little more about the robots themselves, what can they do to people? Has there been any true stories about robots harming people?
Overall this article and review was interesting because generally this isnt a topic we think about, so when i read this in depth article came out it got my attention. Nice Job Cyrus :)

  5. Cyrus did a nice job reviewing the article. Three things I liked were the simplicity used in the article and in Cyrus's explanation because most science articles can be hard to understand. ANother aspect I enjoyed was his perspective in saying things such as "some robots are a bridge for hackers intruding on your lives."Thirdly, this unusual topic is a very good choice because I'm sure it is pretty eye opening to every reader, especially those with robots in their house. Two things that could have been improved were reasons for hackers to do something like this, and how serious it would be. One thing I learned was that robots actually do play a huge role in all our lives. Look at the ATM or hte vending machines! They are robots that we use all the time!

  6. This review was very well presented. I liked how it was pretty short and to the point. This review made me want to know more about this subject. It was both informative and interesting. Two ways how this review could have been better would be if there was a little more detail about how someone could actually hack a robot. Also, if there were more examples of when this has happened and the effects it has. Overall, I really liked this review because it had a great topic and was well written.

  7. Jackie Faselt- Article review

I thought Cyrus’ article was very interesting. I thought he did a very good job telling the key points of a very long article. The summery really makes me think of what will happen in the future. I thought Cyrus also did a good job using appropriate vocabulary words so anyone could understand the article. I thought it was good that he interpreted the article no just restating facts. To improve this article Cyrus should fix a few spelling mistakes. He could also elaborate more on how hackers could access people robots. I thought this article really teaches people about some of the problems with modern technology, it show people have to be careful.
