'World's biggest' sea monster found on UK coast

In the south coast of England, a fossil hunter has found the remains of what is thought to be the world's biggest sea monster. This sea monster, which was alive 150 million years ago and was 15.8 meters long, was MUCH larger than a tyrannosaurus rex and could easily have eaten one. The whole skeleton was not found, only a whopping 8 foot skull of the creature called a pliosaur was discovered. It was found by Kevan Sheehan, a local collector, and was purchased by Dorset county council for $35,750 and will be on display at the Dorset County Museum. It took Sheehan four years to find the whole fossil after he came along a large piece that fell out of a cliff.
This is the largest sea monster found in history; the previous largest creature was a smaller pliosaur. This will mark a new knowledge of sea creatures and of the history of the sea. It will help scientists know more about the pliosaur, and young children who visit museum could one day possibly see the skeleton of a sea monster, seemingly just a legend.
This was a very interesting article and pleasant to read. I learned about the pliosaur and a major discovery that took place. I personally feel that the article wasn't organized very well, but was very easy to understand. In order to make the article better however, is that I would provide a bit more information about the pliosaur and some more facts. Overall, it was very entertaining to read and was well written.

  1. I think that the article, "Worlds Biggest Sea Monster Found on UK coast," was a very interesting read. Julia was very clear when she wrote about that main points of the article. Also, she made is very easy to understand. Another thing Julia did that was good was her use of language.
One thing Julia could have done better on was to explain about the previous monster that was found. Another thing she could have done better was to tell more about the man who discovered it.
One thing I would like to learn more about is this monster in preticular and others that have been found in the past.

  2. I thought that Julia was able to explain this article very clearly. She also was specific when explaining fossils of this sea monster and I was able to envision how large this animal would look. In class, she presented this interesting article well.
While reading this article I was wondering who found the second largest pliosaur and where it was found. I would have also wanted to know how the rest of pliosaur’s fossils were found.
I learned from this article that the t-rex is no longer the largest know animal that has lived on earth.

    Chemistry review on blog

Julia’s review on ‘Worlds Biggest’ Seas Monster Found on the UK Coast, was very well written. She gave a lot of details, but not to many, just enough to make it understandable to the reader. Also, she did a great job explaining the size of the creature. If she had just said it was 15.8 meters, I would probably not be able to picture the size, but instead she described it as big enough to eat a T-Rex, easily. She clearly gives the reader a good comparison. One last good thing she does is she describes how hard it was for the discoverer to find it. She explained the hardship, and made the review easy to read. One thing Julia could have done to make her review better, is she could have described in more detail how the fossil was found, to make the reader more interested in the story. Another thing she could have done better was explaining what the Pliosaur looked like, and how it lived. By reading Julia’s review one thing that I learned was that on the south coast of England, a fossil hunter found what is thought to be the world largest “sea monster”

  4. Julia! Good job, this article was a good one, it is really cool. I thought three parts of your article were really good. One was that your review provided some detail, but not to much so that it was boring. Another great thing that you did was that you wrote the review with good grammer etc. The third thing that you did REALLY well was that you used perfect vocabulary that just made your review a good read. There were also two things you could have done to make your review EVEN better. One was that you could have made your review a bit longer, maybe a paragraph or two. You also could have expanded on your ideas a little more. One great thing i learned was that SEA MONSTERS EXIST! YAY! GOOD JOB!

  5. From the start his was a good article in that it attracted my attention right away with the phrase in the title “sea monster.” Once I was hooked I was delighted to find that the reviewer made my understanding of the material easier, by comparing it to something the audience (me) would be familiar with, Tyrannosaurus Rex. I also, think it prudent of her to explain why her review was not lengthier since I thought this was one of its faults and it was good not to know it was all her doing. I also think that more explanation on why it was called a Pliosaur might have been beneficial. This article grabbed my attention and kept it, because it disputes the ideas we are told as young children that dinosaurs were all large land animals. The idea that sea creatures might have been superior is an interesting and novel idea.
