Phys Ed: Why Exercise Makes You Less Anxious

Researchers at Princeton University made a new discovery about the brains of rats and exercise. The neurons in their brains react differently in the brains of exercised rats rather then slothful rats. The brains of the exercised rats were more calm then those of unexercised rats. The scientists say that they always knew exercise effected mood, but how it effected anxiety was unclear until now. Other researchers have looked at how exercise alters the activity of dopamine, another neurotransmitter in the brain, while still others have concentrated on the antioxidant powers of moderate exercise. Anxiety in rats and people, have been proven to kill cells especially in the brain. When rats in one experiment were injected with a chemical that induced stress, they became extremely anxious. The intensity of the exercise is also uncertain as of the moment, but there are many experiments that are going on to find out more. Less stress may not come after one jog, but after a few weeks you will notice a difference says one of the doctors.
This article was very interesting. I had no idea that exercise relieved stress from the body. I think that this article was written very well. It included a lot of detail and explained everything well. One thing that I did not especial enjoy about the article was that it was written more for adults. I didn’t understand everything they were talking about so it was a little difficult to follow. Over all it was very good.

  1. Hey Allison!
I kind of agree with you, what they were saying could be very confusing! I think one you did everything REALLY well, but there are three things that were the best! <3 One thing that you did that was so good was that you did a great job of explaining your article although it was confusing. Another great thing you did was that you wrote your review very well in terms of English and grammer. A third good aspect of your review was that you had great organization in your writing.
Althought your review was very good, there are always things that people need to work on. One thing that you could improve inyour next article would be that you could try to add in some more details about the article in your review. A second thing you could improve would be that you explain your article more carefully. Besides these improvements you could make, your review was REALLY GOOD!
One great thing I learned from your article was the whole consept of your review. I had no idea that exercising affects your anxiety! That so interesting! No wonder people always say, "If you are nervous about something, run it off!" HAHA.
    xoxo CAROLINE
p.s. PLEASE remind me next time we have lab! I always forget!

  2. A thing Allison did well was state the purpose of the current event. The purpose is to compare the brains of excercised rats and non excersised rats. The brain of a excersized rat is less anxios than non excersized rats. Also she says that, " Less stress may not come after one jog, but after a few weeks you will notice a difference." This is important, because it proves the purpose, excersice relieves stress. Finally, she states what anxiety does to a brain. It kills brain cells.
A thing Allison can work on is explain an antioxidant power. This is key, because the purpose of the lab excersise relieves stress in the brain. It relieves the stress in antioxidant powers and activity of dopamine. Finally, you could explain how anxiety kills brain cells.
I was aware about how excrsising relieves stress. I only infered this, but now it is confirmed. This maybe is why schools have sports. I always felt exercising helped relieve the stress of academics.

  3. One part which was good about Allison’s review was that she was very strait to the point. Another part that was done well was that she made the article sound very interesting to read. Also, her writing was very easy to understand.
In her writing she could have mentioned some of the names of people that where doing the experiments. She could have went into more detail about other experiments that have been done with exercise as well.
Overall, I learned that exercise can be used not only to stay healthy, but also to calm people down.

  4. This was a great review! Alison did not use scientific terms, so it was comprehendible to the average student. The review was short and concise and Alison did not waste time dilly-dallying. It would have been nice to know some more specifics of the research, like who are the scientists? How long have they been testing this? She also could have talked more about which exercises calm you down the most, etc. I though both the review and the article were very interesting because this isn’t a topic I typically think of, I thought exercising got people worked up, but I guess not! NICE JOB ALISON!
