In the article “In a First, a Fish Found to Be Fully Warm-Blooded,” by Sindya N. Bhanoo, she discusses a fish found recently, that was fully warm-blooded. The opah, or moonfish, is the first fully warm-blooded fish, not counting some fish such as tuna, who can change their blood temperature in certain situations. Its a silver colored fish the size of a tire, and is found all over the oceans. It harnesses its heat by flapping its fins frantically, thus giving it survival advantages in colder water.
This article is significant in many fields. We previously thought there was not a completely warm-blooded fish, but again, nature proves us wrong. This just goes to show that there are always new discoveries were we least expect them. This is also a scientific breakthrough because if there’s one warm-blooded fish, there's a possibility of more species just waiting to be found.\
This article was overall well written. The one thing that could definitely be improved upon was the length of the article. I know there probably was not enough information, but the author could surely have added some more lines to the short paragraph that it presently is. To sum it up, this article was very interesting, and I was intrigued to learn that they had found a completely warm-blooded fish swimming amongst the other cold-blooded fish.
This was a very interesting article that discussed a topic that I did not know about prior to reading the article. A warm blooded fish is an exotic and unique creature that can open up many new windows to the world of marine biology. Overall, I think that Scott did a pretty good job wring a current event about the article. One thing he did well was including a good summary to what the article was about. By including a good summary in your opening paragraph, the reader gains an understanding about the topic and as a result, doesn’t have to read the article to know what it is about. Also, Scott gave a good critique of the article. He noted that the article was a little too short, which I’m sure many people agree with. Finally, Scott did a nice job including the idea that we as humans learn something new everyday about the world we live in, and that our conclusions continue to be disproved by new discoveries that occur as time progresses. Although Scott did many things well, there is always room for improvement. One thing that Scott could’ve done to make his current even better, is to include a section on how the discovery of the warm blooded fish can affect our lives. This connection would make the reader more engaged and interested while reading the current event. Also, this was a very short art and had relatively no information. Scott should have chosen a longer article with more information, so he can express his opinions on many more ideas. One thing that shocked me when reading this article was the idea of a warm blooded fish. Such an idea had never crossed my mind and makes me question what other creatures lay beneath the water that are yet to be discovered.
